Trama:Le caratteristiche del cartone sugli X-Men ricalcavano in linea generale quelle dei fumetti disegnati Jim Lee all'inizio del 1990, che comprendevano Ciclope, Wolverine, Rogue, Tempesta, Bestia, Gambit, Jubilee, Jean Grey, Professor X, e un personaggio nuovo, Morph. Tuttavia non facevano parte di una squadra nella serie animata i seguenti X-Men, apparsi tutti come guest star al massimo in un episodio: Colosso, Nightcrawler, Emma Frost, Forge, Havok, Polaris, Cannonball, Banshee, Uomo Ghiaccio, Arcangelo, Longshot, Dazzler, Sole Ardente, Psylocke, Cable, e Alfiere. Altri personaggi fecero dei camei.Un certo numero di famose storie ed eventi viste nei fumetti furono vagamente adattati nella serie animata, come la saga della Fenice nera, Days of Future Past, Phalanx Covenant, e Legacy Virus. Nel terzo episodio, “Enter Magneto” viene mostrato uno scontro in una base missilistica: l'episodio in larga parte è basato sulla prima battaglia degli X-Men contro Magneto, come raccontato nel loro debutto a fumetti nel 1963. Nella quarta serie gli episodi “Sanctuary, Parts I & II” dove Magneto crea un paradiso per i mutanti, furono influenzati da diverse storie proveniente dai fumetti....
